Read with TalkBack or low vision
Set ListenLock up so every screen works with TalkBack and large text, and control reading by voice with the screen off.

- हिन्दी

- TalkBack
- Large text
- Screen off
- You need
- The voice commands model for screen-off control (optional, English commands)
- Set-up
- 5 minutes
- Features combined
- TalkBack · Page and text · Focus view · Highlight each word · Voice commands
- Phone cost
- Voice commands listen on the phone and stop by themselves after reading has been paused for a while
- Use TalkBack as usual. Every screen in ListenLock has labels, headings and actions for TalkBack, and rows stay readable at Android’s largest text sizes. Search in the Library finds books, actions and settings by name, which is often quicker than exploring menus.
- Make the page easier to see. In the reader, tap ⋮ and then Page and text. Turn on Focus view for larger text with everything but the sentence being read dimmed, and Highlight each word to follow along word by word.
- Pick letters that are easier to read. In Page and text, under Font, try Easy letters (Atkinson Hyperlegible) or Dyslexia-friendly (OpenDyslexic). These change English text only; Hindi and Bengali keep their usual font.
- Control reading by voice. Search the Library for Voice commands, download the model, then turn on Listen for voice commands and Keep listening with the screen off. Say “ListenLock, pause”, “play”, “next”, “back”, “repeat”, “faster” or “slower”.
- Keep your hands free. Headset buttons and the lock screen controls play, pause and skip, and ListenLock resumes at the same sentence every time.
Why it works
TalkBack handles the app, ListenLock’s own voice handles the book, and voice commands mean you do not need to find the screen at all once a book is playing. Everything is heard on the phone; nothing is recorded or sent.
If it goes wrong
If TalkBack and the book voice talk over each other, pause the book before exploring the screen, or use a voice command instead of the screen. If a control is hard to find or has a confusing label, please tell us which screen it was.
