What it does

Made for long reading: textbooks, novels, reports and government papers, in the language they were written in.

  • Reads your documents

    PDF, EPUB, Word (.docx), OpenDocument, RTF, saved web pages, Markdown and plain text. Two-column pages are read in the right order, and page numbers, headers and footers are skipped.

  • Pictures and scanned pages

    Offline text recognition reads scanned PDFs, a photo of a page, or up to 50 pictures from your gallery as one book.

  • Read aloud from any app

    Select text anywhere and tap Read aloud, share text to ListenLock, or read what you copied.

  • Offline voices in three languages

    English works straight away. Hindi and Bengali voices, including Bengali voices that read feelings, are free downloads. Mixed-language sentences switch voice mid-sentence, and older Hindi and Bengali fonts are read correctly.

  • Keeps playing, picks up where you stopped

    Screen off or in other apps, with lock-screen and headset controls, a sleep timer, speed from 0.5× to 3× and voice commands. It resumes at the same sentence, even after a restart.

  • Studio mode

    Prepares a book ahead of time while your phone charges, so the richest voices play without gaps. You can listen to, save or delete what it made.

  • Study and save

    Bookmarks, highlights, voice notes, search and an offline dictionary. Save a book as an audiobook or share a clip.

  • Private, with app lock

    No account, no ads, no analytics. App lock uses your phone's fingerprint, face or screen lock, and Hide app content blocks screenshots and the recent-apps preview.

Your reading stays on your phone

  • No account, no server, no ads, no analytics and no crash-reporting service.
  • Your books, notes and listening history never leave the phone unless you export or back them up yourself.
  • The internet is used only for the voices and language packs you choose to download, and each file is checked before use.
  • This website has no cookies, trackers or third-party fonts either.

Join the closed test

Before ListenLock is public on Google Play, a group of testers uses it for at least 14 days. Testers get every fix first.

  1. Email us from the Google account you use on Google Play, with the subject "ListenLock tester".
  2. We add you to the test and reply with the Google Play link.
  3. Install ListenLock from that link, keep it installed for 14 days, and tell us what works and what doesn't.
